COLBORNE, Ont. – May 24, 2017 – Michel Beyore returned to DIRTcar Sportsman competition last weekend at Brockville Ontario Speedway and turned in a top-10 performance. The Colborne, Ont. driver came away with a 10th-place finish.
Beyore was happy with the car when he hit the track for the first time in hot laps. After the practice session, he then faced the challenge of adapting to the changing track conditions.
“I went out in practice and I was awesome, really good,” Beyore said. “I guess when all the practice was done, I should have gone and looked again because it had started to slick off. When I went into the heat, I held my own but it was a handful.”
Beyore earned a fourth-place finish in this heat and started mid-pack for the main event. The slick track was still a challenge, but he made adjustments before taking the green.
“We made some changes for the slick and they gave us practice just before the feature,” Beyore said. “We weren’t too bad, but as the feature went it got a little slicker. The biggest thing for us is learning to read that track, I guess.”
As the race wore on, Beyore worked to find his way into the top-10 and choose a preferred groove.
“It was a pretty good race,” Beyore stated. “With the feature being slick, if I went up in the middle I wasn’t bad. I didn’t venture up high, so I stayed where I felt comfortable. When we came to the checkered flag, I was with the guys in eighth and ninth. We were fighting for position and I could have just as easily finished eighth.”
The top-10 result is a positive first step for Beyore in his Metals Plus/Millennium Crane/Hoy’s Garage No.54a. He and his Beyore Racing team have established a strong base to continue finding speed.
“We’re going to make a few shock changes for next time. I need to change where I’m headed, but it’s minor,” Beyore said. “We were quite happy. We wanted to be competitive. The top-10 cars drove away from everybody else. We were just as good as most of them.”
Saturday’s season opener at Brockville marked 45 years since Michel’s father Max last raced the track. Michel’s retro paint scheme in honour of his father attracted attention from some long-time fans.
“There were quite a few people who came by and recognized the car, some of the older fans,” Beyore explained. “George Warden, one of the original pit guys for my dad, he lives in Brockville and he was pitting with us. That was pretty cool.”
Beyore will return to action at Brockville on Saturday, June 3. For additional event information, visit www.brockvillespeedway.com.
