FREDERICTON, NB -(July 6, 2021) – The Atlantic Modified Tour is back in action on Saturday, July 10th as the Series heads to Speedway Miramichi for Round Four of 12 on the 2021 point championship season.
The All Star Auto Center 35 is the second of four trips to the historic North Shore New Brunswick oval on the year and is a part of Firecracker Night at the speedway. Racing begins on July 10th at 6pm.
It took him three races but Yves McCray (Neguac, NB) finds himself in familiar territory. The reigning Atlantic Modified Tour champion enters Saturday’s All Star Auto Center 35 as the point leader following a win at Speedway 660 on June 26th. McCray made the winning move in the Bryn Enterprises 35 in the final five laps after Braxton Stafford (Miramichi, NB) had a mechanical failure in the waning laps. McCray then held off Joe Hoyt (Waasis, NB) for the final laps to capture his first win of the 2021 season.
McCray’s point lead is 15 over Travis Conroy (Miramichi, NB). It is early in the season and with three quarters of the point races remaining, a lot can happen. While Conroy scored his first Atlantic Modified Tour win in June, he would like nothing more than to climb from his No. 7 Patterson’s Sales and Service Modified as a winner at the race track he cut his teeth at.
Zean Dutcher (Miramichi, NB) and Hoyt have been models of consistency if three races into a season can be a big enough sample size. Each have two podium finishes in three events and while Hoyt has a second place finish to Dutcher’s pair of third place runs, Dutcher has a one point advantage in the standings. Both are former winners at Speedway Miramichi and both have shown speed in 2021 enough to become the fourth different winner in as many races in 2021 if they play their cards right.
Stafford has shown the most speed in 2021 without the finishes to show for them. The No. 91 Blackville Auto Value entry has led laps in the last two Atlantic Modified Tour events but failed to register a top five in either of those showings. Stafford hopes to better his best finish of fourth this season at his home track during the All Star Auto Center 35.
Local drivers Chris Wilson and Steven Curtis (both of South Esk, NB) will look to better their finishes from June at Miramichi. Wilson scored a runner-up finish to Doug Matchett (Miramichi, NB) in the Sutherland Excavating Limited 35 while Curtis registered a top five finish in his first outing of 2021.
The Rookie of the Year battle in the Atlantic Modified Tour sees Michael Savoie (Miramichi, NB) ahead of Brody Levesque (Lincoln, NB) after three races. Levesque was a late entry into the Series but with Savoie missing the last round due to damage from the previous event, the top freshman battle is on as the Series returns to Savoie’s home turf.
