PETERBOROUGH, ON- Riding a hot streak of two wins in his last three starts, Anthony Dibello entered June 21st action at Peterborough Speedway intent on keeping his momentum alive. The Woodville, ON driver charged from deep in the field, registering a 4th place finish to retain control of the Thunder Car division point standings.
“Anytime you’re the defending race winner, you have to start at the tail end of the field”, explained Dibello post-race. “We knew heading into the feature that it was going to be tough working our way through traffic, so I just tried to stay patient and keep the fenders on the car”
“It took a few laps for the car to really come alive, but once it did it was awesome”, continued Dibello. “I feel like we really would have had something for the top-3 if this was a longer race”
The Woodville, ON product appeared hampered by a spate of mid-race caution periods that bunched the field up and left Dibello mired in traffic.
“You gotta be lucky to be good, and tonight the cautions just didn’t fall our way”, said Dibello, “every time we found ourselves in good position, with room to move, the caution would come out and we’d get holed up in traffic”
“As a racer, your first instinct is to do your best to start moving guys, but I really don’t want to race like that. We’re racing for a championship, and that’s what I’m focused on every time I hit the race track”
The second-generation star has still yet to finish outside of the top-5; a statistic that Dibello is every bit as proud of as he is his two feature wins.
“Consistency is something that I feel I’ve struggled with in season’s past”, explained the former Mosport Speedway regular. “To be able to put down consistent top-5 finishes tells me that I’m maturing as a competitor, which is phenomenal”
“Our program is as good as it’s ever been, and I’m more focused and motivated to win a championship than ever. This team works so hard to give me a good piece every Saturday. I’d love to repay them with our first career Thunder Car title”
Anthony and his Dibello Towing team will enjoy a hard-earned two weeks off, before returning to action at Peterborough Speedway on July 12th for the ‘Mid-Summer Shootout’.
