SOUTHAMPTON, ON- Third-year competitor Nick Goetz will head to Peterborough Speedway this Sunday, June 29th to compete in the 75-lap ‘Chase for the Colours’ invitational.
The event is likely to draw the top Limited Late Model division talent from across Ontario, with a front row starting position at the famed Autumn Colours Classic up for grabs.
“This is exactly the kind of event that could help us turn our season around”, said Goetz when reached for comment. “We haven’t had the best luck, so we’re hoping a change of scenery can switch things up for us”
Although Goetz’s experience at Peterborough is limited, ‘Livewire’ is confident in his NG Motorsports program.
“Although this is just my third-year racing a Late Model, I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by some incredibly experienced people”, explained Goetz. “[Crew Chief] Graham Annis has a tonne of experience at Peterborough, and I trust him completely to give us a setup capable of getting this car to the front”
The Southampton, ON driver has appeared in the past two Autumn Colours Classic events, and hopes to qualify for a third – with the added luxury of not having to charge through the field on October 12th.
“I’ve had to come through the field at ‘the Classic’ before”, said Goetz, “it’s as hectic an experience as I’ve ever had in a car. The best of the best come out for that show, and making your way through the traffic is a tall order”
“I’d love more than anything to park our Lake Huron Rod & Gun No. 24 on the front row. I think that would give us an immeasurable advantage over the rest of the field”
Despite talks of Peterborough’s Crown Jewel event in October, Goetz is quick to point out he is not overlooking the task at hand.
“This team isn’t looking past June 29th. We know the level of competition we’re going to be up against. Peterborough’s a tough place to get around, especially when you’re racing in the daytime. We don’t expect there to be a lot of grip. Whoever can find forward bite is going to have the best chance at getting to the front”
