PETERBOROUGH, ON- Second-generation star Anthony Dibello returned to Peterborough Speedway victory lane on July 12th, leading all 20-laps of competition for his third win of 2014.
“This car was on rails tonight”, smiled Dibello in victory-lane. “My guys have done such an awesome job this season. It’s felt as though we’ve had a chance at a win every single night this year. To get it done for the third time is phenomenal”
The Woodville, ON driver started from the pole position, and made no mistake in holding off the veteran-heavy Thunder Car field.
“There’s always a certain degree of pressure when you’re starting on the pole”, admitted Dibello post-race. “Because, you know, if you make a single mistake, the guy behind you is going to jump all over it. It’s tough to be perfect at anything. But I don’t think we gave up a lot of chances tonight”
Dibello survived a late-race battle with veteran Howie Crowe to earn the race victory, and had nothing but praise for the former division champion.
“Anytime you can keep Howie behind you it’s a good night”, explained Dibello. “He’s such a professional, it really is a pleasure to race with him. I’d like to think we put on a show those last 3-laps. I knew how close he was. He made me work for this one, no doubt”
“I appreciate him running me clean though. He could have roughed me up, but he was a real gentleman about it”, added Dibello.
The victory allowed Dibello to further tighten his grip on the Thunder Car division point standings, as he continues to work his way towards his first career Peterborough Speedway championship.
“Nights like these are exactly what this team needs”, said Dibello. “We’re in the second half of the season now. There’s no room for error. We just have to keep doing what we’ve been doing. This has been a dream season in a lot of ways, but it won’t be complete until we have that championship”
