Wetaskiwin, AB- We have the greatest opportunities at Edmonton Int’l Raceway (EIR) to meet some of the most bravest, interesting and exciting people at EIR. Our Blind Behind the Wheel Race this past Saturday (June 22) was one of those successes!
The Alberta Guide Dog Association was on hand allowing individuals to be blindfolded and guided around the track parking lot, not a very easy task for the blindfolded person (or the dog!) however a great learning experience for all involved.
The participants included: Tanner Chaboyer, Nelso Rego, Rose Barber, Lori Hysert, James Stainton, Ryan Kucy, Blair Nesbitt and Lorne Webber. The crowd was totally amazed at these racers’ ability to race around EIR’s quarter-mile paved oval. Our awesome Navigators included Alar Aksberg, Doug Thomson and Robert Waite and they were wonderful at guiding their racers on the oval.
Racers gathered pledges from friends, families and businesses to donate to the Alberta Guide Dog Association, keeping in mind, the cost to raise one guide dog ready to assist is over $40,000.
All racers were awarded with a Trophy and medal sponsored by Wagsmore Grooming & Doggy Daycare in Sherwood Park!
