SAUBLE BEACH, ON- OSCAAR Super Late Model point leader Andrew Gresel dazzled in his return to Sauble Speedway, dominating Round 6 of the OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour for his 2nd victory of 2014.
“This was an awesome day, it’s always special to come home and win in front of your friends and family”, remarked a jubilant Gresel post-race.
“Sauble’s always been special to our family, I grew up watching my Dad race here”, continued Gresel. “I turned my first ever laps here, I’ve watched my sister race here – it’s just an awesome facility. It’s always been home. I couldn’t be happier right now”
Gresel took the lead on lap-8 of the 50-lap contest and never looked back, holding off 4-time tour champion Glenn Watson and fellow title contender Kevin Cornelius in the process.
“I knew they were back there – but I didn’t know how close they were. So, I figured I better just keep my foot matted and try to hang on”, said Gresel flashing a smile.
“This was an awesome rebound for our team. We haven’t been able to race since Sunset last month, so we’ve been waiting a long time. We didn’t have the outing we wanted last time, so Sauble was the perfect place to try and get our program back on point”
With the win, Gresel tightened his grip on the tour standings, as he continues his march towards his first career OSCAAR championship.
“It really is an honour to sit on top of the standings when I consider the talent on this tour”, explained Gresel. “These are some of the best guys in our industry, and it’s no walk in the park trying to beat them every week. We worked all off-season to put together a program that we felt could run at the front on this tour, I’m just happy we’ve had this much success so far”
Gresel and the Sauble Falls Racing Team won’t have long to enjoy their Sauble triumph, as they head back to the shop to prepare for Round 7 of the tour at Peterborough Speedway on August 2nd.
“The quick turnaround between races is definitely an endurance test”, remarked Gresel. “Thankfully, our car rolled off the track in one piece, so we can start putting our Peterborough setup in it immediately”
Andrew Gresel’s 2014 campaign is made possible thanks to Sauble Falls Tent & Trailer Park, London Recreational, Canadian Union of Skilled Workers, HY-Grade Roofing, Have1.com and Raden Givari of eHomes.
