BANCROFT, ON (February 26, 2020)- Weekly short track action is all about gaining experience and the ideal recipe for racing knowledge is seat time. After being named Rookie of the Year in 2018 – his first season in Peterborough Speedway’s Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock field – Alex McGibbon moved-up to the Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck ranks. It was there that the 21-year-old from Bancroft, Ontario was dubbed Most Improved Driver. With opening night slated for Saturday, May 16th McGibbon has announced that for his third year in the sport, he plans to run both classes for the 2020 season.

“I’m still learning my craft and the best way to do that is to race as much as possible,” admitted McGibbon. “Running a couple of different classes for the full year might be tough, but I also think it’ll be a lot of fun. The racing can get intense but for the most part, we’re all friends. Everyone is pretty quick to step-up and lend a hand to keep the show rolling.”

McGibbon – who works as an auto body technician – says his girlfriend Brooke is his biggest fan and offers her support for his racing endeavours at every turn. He’s also thankful of his crew members Barry McGibbon, Sam Burnett and Justin Bierworth for keeping his equipment in the hunt. As one of about a handful of drivers who make the trek from Bancroft to Peterborough every Saturday night, the driver is comfortable with the knowledge that help is usually just a couple of pit stalls away.

“After celebrating my first career Renegade Truck feature win with my equipment hooked to the tow truck, there is plenty to look forward to,” Alex McGibbon said. “I get a huge rush from just pulling onto the track and being able to run two different divisions during the 2020 season will be such a thrill. I can’t wait for the year to get started.”

Away from the speedway, McGibbon says he enjoys hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, dirt biking and snowmobiling. He wants to thank the fans for coming out every weekend to watch the facing and hopes to put on a good show this year. The driver says he likes the time he gets to spend with his family and friends and looks forward to every aspect about racing; except getting caught-up in a wreck.

Alex McGibbon’s program is proudly supported by Watts & Sutherland Auto Body, Dillabough Millwright & Welding, Gaebel Insurance, Rainbow Auto Glass, Freymond Lumber, True North Game Calls and Aspen Grove Outdoors.
