@JohnsonvilleCA • @Sunset_Speedway • AYR, ON (JUNE 19, 2015) – Building on his solid start to the 2015 racing season, Sunset Speedway Super Stock racer Adam Martin continues to post top-five results in the #97 Johnsonville Ford.
Combining top finishes and consistency, the Ayr, Ontario racer has climbed to third-place in the track’s point standings following a fifth-place finish on June 13 at the one-third-mile, Barrie-area oval.
“We’re trying to stay consistent and adding to our points every week,” said the track’s 2014 Super Stock Rookie of the Year. “This past weekend (June 13) we finished fifth, so we were really happy with that. We’ve really only had one issue all year; a mechanical problem, in May. But thankfully, that was on a non-points night so the timing was pretty good for that to happen.”
Gaining experience and building confidence with every outing, the driver of the Johnsonville Sausage / Candy Tree / Reser’s Fine Foods / Little Potato Company / SecureDrive / Stihl / Beyond Digital Imaging / GoTire / Micks Motorsports / Permatex Ford continued, “We’ve been racing against a lot of good drivers and cars every week, so I’m proud to have the Johnsonville Ford in third-place in the standings and racing up front almost every night so far this season.”
POINTS: Sunset Speedway Super Stock Standings as of June 18, 2015 (Top 5): 1. #76 Cayden Lapcevich (396); 2. #72 Randy Rusnell (380); 3. #97 Adam Martin (373); 4. #46 Lane Zardo (365); 5. #21 Matt Bentley (363)
UP NEXT: Sunset Speedway will be busy this Friday and Saturday, hosting a pair of special events. On Friday, June 19, Sunset continues the tradition of honouring one of the area’s most successful and popular racers, the late Garry Reynolds. Traditionally, this event has taken place at Barrie Speedway.
Adam Martin and the #97 Johnsonville Ford will be on track for Friday’s extended distance Super Stock race. “We’re excited about our 50-lap race on Friday night,” said Adam Martin.
And on Saturday (June 20), the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series makes its first-ever appearance at Sunset for the Leland 300 Presented by Johnsonville. NASCAR series veteran and Sunset Speedway GM Mark Dilley will be behind the wheel of the #02 Johnsonville / Leland Ford for the history-making event.
In addition to racing, the team will host some of its sponsors at Sunset. “We’re going to have a hospitality tent and we’re looking forward to entertaining some of our sponsors at the track this weekend,” concluded Martin.

LATE MODEL TEST: A few weeks ago, Adam Martin had an opportunity to test the team’s new Johnsonville Late Model stock car at Sunset. According to the 17-year-old, it went very well. “For the first time out, the times were good and pretty consistent, and we were all happy with how it went. The car performed really well. Kerry Micks is planning on racing it in the 75-lap Garry Reynolds Memorial Late Model race on Friday night and I think I’ll probably race it in the next few weeks.”
