PETERBOROUGH, ON (June 5, 2018)- Rain may have stood in the way of the first attempt to get things underway for 2018, but the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series powered by Torque Builders Inc. will step up to the plate to kick-off its long-awaited new schedule of action on Saturday, June 9 at Peterborough Speedway. Rick Warnes – who along with Randy Hollingsworth and Bill Pickford make-up the OMRS team of officials – says its drivers and teams are very excited to get back to the track.
“Everyone is putting the finishing touches on their equipment to make sure they’re ready to open the new schedule,” Rick Warnes said. “We’ll have some new faces in the line-up to join the familiar favourites when the green flag flies and additional sponsorship support from our existing marketing partners and some new companies who have become part of our exciting brand of open wheeled racing.”
In the starting field, Craig Scott – who’s resume has included time in the provincial Thunder Car/Super Stock ranks at Peterborough Speedway and Kawartha – will be a series regular. He’ll be joined on the tour by Anthony DiBello – who earned three track championships over the last four seasons at Peterborough. Bob Franks will also be part of the action on this year’s schedule.
Warnes says that one of the biggest changes on the 2018 OMRS tour will be where the rubber meets the race track, with a switch to a new 11-inch racing slick that teams will utilize. On the sponsorship side of things, Torque Builders Inc. will return as the title backer, with continued involvement from Complete Mechanical, Borque Transmission and Gen-3 Electrical. Officials are pleased to welcome Sterling Tire to the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series family. On the road, in addition to the shows at Peterborough and Flamboro, the new calendar will feature first-time visits to Sauble and Delaware Speedways.
Ontario Modifieds Racing Series notebook: Prior to the Saturday, June 9th date at Peterborough Speedway, organizers will host the annual Test a Mod Day from 11:00 ‘til 2:00. Participants will have the chance to get behind the wheel of an OMRS machine and run some laps at the venue known as Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval.
