Bowmanville, Ont. September 1, 2013- Jason White made solid gains in the field at Sunday’s Clarington 200, only for his potential to be cut short due to a red flag.
Jason White was excited to return to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for a big weekend, a track where he’s had success in past races.
When practice kicked off for #21, he fought through tight handling on his Bowers & Wilkins Dodge. The crew worked to correct the problem before qualifying, but the issue continued to persist and White ended up with a 26th place starting position.
“We’re really disappointed,” White said prior to the race. “We know we’re better than that.”
The team worked quickly to brush off the disappointing qualifying and work to loosen up the handling before the Clarington 200.
Due to their positioning so far back in the field, the team opted to use pit stop strategy to attempt to move forward. The driver of the #21 pitted early for fuel, and made further adjustments on the vehicle when swapping out the tires.
“After that last stop, the car just came alive,” White said. “We started walking our way forward, and every restart we’d pick up two or three spots.”
The #21 continued to muscle his way through the field, running as high as 15th. Just as White was hitting his stride, a multi-vehicle accident resulted in a red flag, ending the race due to time constraints.
“It’s too bad we didn’t get a green, white checker finish because I think we really would have had a shot to gain more positions and be close to a top ten,” White said after the race. “We’re a little disappointed but really happy to be part of this weekend. I’m looking forward to coming back because I feel like I left something out there.”
After Sunday’s game, Jason White sits in eighth place in the overall standings with 311 points.
