August 15, 2013 – London, Ontario – Ryan Litt’s season started on a high note with a win down south, but his London, Ontario-based racing team had to take some time off after that, and then ran into some bad luck when they got back on track. They’re ready to get back in contention for feature wins with a pair of home province races this weekend.
“To start the year off with the biggest win of my career was unbelievable,” says Ryan. “We were super pumped to continue on, and run the full MSR tour, but we had some family medical troubles, so racing took a back seat.”
Ryan got back behind the wheel of a race car when he was asked to drive the #74 Supermodified for car owner Brad Lichty at Autodrome Chaudiere.
“It was nice to run for Brad in Quebec,” says Ryan. “Just to be in a race car again was awesome, and I really enjoy racing with those guys – Great family, and we all get along really well.”
Ryan will be driving the Dave Lair-owned “Lairjet” #88 Supermodified again this weekend, with 75 lap features set for the ISMA tour Friday at Delaware Speedway near London, Ontario, and Sunday at Sunset Speedway near Barrie, Ontario. He previously drove the #88 at the Hy-Miler Nationals weekend in Sandusky, Ohio in July.
“We pulled the Lairjet out of the garage and took it to Sandusky looking for some positive results,” says Ryan. “Unfortunately we had a lot of new car troubles, with things like brakes not working properly, and then the drive shaft broke and set us back quite a bit. We were near the top of the speed charts at times, but had trouble staying there. Hopefully we got all the weak links fixed and we can run strong in front of the local crowd this weekend.”
Ryan has been a contender for Supermodified feature wins at Delaware before, but that’s just one of several reasons he’s looking forward to this weekend.
“Racing at Delaware is always a highlight for me,” says Ryan. “Just to be at a racetrack 15 minutes from home, and see familiar faces is awesome. It’s so neat to have Supermodifieds in Ontario – there is so much history with them around London, and to be a part of that nowadays is pretty cool. I grew up going to Oswego every year for the Classic, and watched my Dad (Wade) run Supermodifieds for a few years. All of my idols growing up were Supermodified guys like Warren Coniam, Bentley Warren, Dave McKnight, Lou Cicconi, and of course my dad, so it really means a lot to me to be able to race with some of those guys now.”
Bad luck has plagued Ryan and his team all season, including a long trip to Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis only to watch it rain. Ryan drove the #07L BS&B Radiator Sprint Car with the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Car series at Indiana’s Salem Speedway last weekend. He was running 3rd in the feature when a mechanical problem forced him out of the race.
Following this weekend’s Supermodified action, Ryan plans to be back in the #07L Sprint Car for the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Car series event at Berlin Raceway in Michigan, before attempting to qualify for his first Oswego International Classic 200 in the #88 Supermodified on Labour Day weekend.
