Stroud, ON (June 9, 2017)- The busy campaign for Wally Wilson Racing continues this weekend as he will make his Outlaw Midget debut at Sunset Speedway on Saturday, June 10.
“My thoughts going into the Outlaw Midget season is just to go out and have fun on my limited schedule in the series,” he said. “I’m looking forward to running with a lot of the people I started out my midget career with in 2015!”
Wilson knows how to be successful behind the wheel of a midget, finishing top-five in both the OSCAAR Pro Midget and OSCAAR Midget points last year. This weekend could bring a slight learning curve, though, being his first trip back to Sunset since 2015. Back in his rookie campaign, he did not have the success warranted in each of his previous four events.
“My thoughts going in to the first race at Sunset Speedway is to show that I’ve still got the speed I had mid season last year,” he said. “I’m looking for a top 10, which is going to be very challenging in such a tight field of cars!”
He says the key to being successful this weekend will be carrying as much speed as possible through the corners to therefore have decent speed down the long straightaways.
“As I’m sure you’ve noticed if you’ve seen me run the Midgets, I prefer the high line, so expect me to be working in the top of the track,” he added. “It’s one of the most technical tracks in Ontario, and I’m looking forward to returning to it!”
So far this year, Wilson has been focused on his OSCAAR Modified campaign, having a pair of solid outings to kick-off the rookie season.
“I’m hoping it’s going to be easy to adjust to the Midget again,” he said. “The Modified is much different from the Midget – weight, power, handling and having to really use the brakes. The Midget is easier to control through a slide. I’ve also had limited seat time in the Modified, so I think I’ll be much more comfortable getting back behind the wheel of the Midget!”
While his modified season will continue on June 24 with his second visit of 2017 to Flamboro Speedway, the midget is the focus right now. Following his Outlaw Midget debut this weekend, he will be racing both his Pro Midget and Midget at Grand Bend Speedway on June 17 as part of OSCAAR’s action.
