MORDEN, MB (July 7, 2013) Roland Bernard’s winning streak at ALH Motor Speedway came to an end as Chris Unrau captured his first Northern Lightning Sprint Association victory of the 2013 racing season.
Until Sunday’s win, Unrau had finished in third place in the Morden opener. He then followed that up with a second place finish behind Roland Bernard on Father’s Day.
Making her first appearance of the season, Amber Balcaen debuted in the WB Racing 35W sprint and earned herself second place finishes in both her heat race and the feature. In the first heat, Balcaen charged from her sixth place starting spot to finish in second.
Heat race winners were Brent Steg and Roland Bernard.
In the feature, Winkler, Manitoba product Chris Unrau made a last lap pass on the #13 of Al Giesbrecht to win the NLSA feature and claimed his first checkered flag of the season. The #27 of Unrau started in fourth place, while runner up Amber Balcaen started in fifth.
Hard charger of the night went to the #11 of Greenbush, Minnesota’s Dexter Dvergsten who started in the seventh position and worked his way up to a respectable third place finish.
Despite a spirited effort, Al Giesbrecht was penalized for spinning out Amber Balcaen in the feature and moved back two positions to finish in fourth place.
Unrau’s win combined with an eighth place finish by Roland Bernard, now places Chris Unrau only nine points behind ALH Motor Speedway points leader Roland Bernard.
Rounding up the top five were Chris Unrau, Amber Balcaen, Dexter Dvergsten, Al Giesbrecht and Brent Steg.
The next scheduled racing action for the NLSA will be Monday, July 8 at Red River Co-op Speedway. Start time is 7:30pm.
