SAUBLE BEACH, Ontario — Taking the lead in the closing laps, Tyler Hawn scored the OSCAAR Hot Rod victory on Saturday at Sauble Speedway.
With heats cancelled due to rain, qualifying was canceled to set the field by points with an eight car invert. As a result, Rob Bromley started pole ahead of Gary Hannah, Ryan Cowan, Jeremy McLean, Amanda Balson, Steve Book, Tyler Hawn, Jesse Kennedy, Trevor Thompson, Marty Monette, Dalen Martin, Jeremy Taggert, Cole Weber, Bill Clarke, Sean Walker, Adrian Foster, Jaymee Adams, Billy Alderson Jr., Mat Hopkins, and Doug Wilson.
Bromley broke out to the early lead ahead of Hannah, as McLean and Cowan battled for third with a bit of contact. However, the caution flew due to Hopkins going around further behind them.
Bromley got a good restart ahead of McLean, Book, Hawn, and Thompson, as Balson and Hannah battled for sixth. Balson would get the spot on Lap 3 ahead of Hannah, as Monette and Martin battled for eighth. Book would get alongside McLean for second, but the caution came out as a result of Monette stopping on the backstretch.
The first attempt at a restart brought forth the third yellow flag, as Clarke went around. After the caution, there was contact on the backstretch resulting in McLean climbing the backstretch wall.
The second attempt was clean, with Bromley and Book battling for the lead, as Hawn and Thompson ran side-by-side for third ahead of Balson, Martin and Foster. Bromley would clear Book for the lead on Lap 7, with Hawn following him through a lap later. Book ran third as Thompson and Balson battled for fourth ahead of Martin, Foster, and Weber.
Hawn would give Bromley a tap in the back bumper going into turn one on Lap 12, though was unable to make the move. Behind them, Book continued to run third with Balson now up to fourth ahead of Thompson, Martin, Foster, Weber, Alderson Jr., Wilson, and Taggert, as Cowan and Hannah battled for 12th. Cowan moved into the spot on Lap 17, bringing Adams through with him as Hannah now ran 14th ahead of Clarke, McLean, and Walker.
Alderson Jr. would get alongside Weber for eighth on Lap 22, taking over the spot a lap later, as McLean got by Clarke for 15th deeper in the field.
Unfortunately, Thompson’s strong run would come to a close on Lap 25 as he headed into the pits with a problem.
The field would get strung out single file, and looked to be coming to an innocent close. However, it wouldn’t end without another caution, as Martin spun in turn four on Lap 33 courtesy of Foster.
The restart would see Broomley’s car shut off as they came to the green, stalling him out in front of the field.
Tyler Hawn would take advantage, taking over the lead and pacing the field the rest of the way en route to winning. Steve Book ran second, followed by Billy Alderson Jr., Cole Weber, and Adrian Foster. Jeremy Taggert finished sixth, followed by Dalen Martin, Doug Wilson, Ryan Cowan, and Jaymee Adams. Gary Hannah placed 11th, followed by Bill Clarke, Jeremy McLean, Amanda Balson, Sean Walker, Mat Hopkins, Rob Bromley, Trevor Thompson, Jesse Kennedy, and Marty Monette.
With the victory, Tyler Hawn will enter this weekend, four points ahead of Steve Book.
