ORO STATION, ON- Second generation driver Tyler Hawn will be in the field when the OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour returns to Delaware Speedway on July 10th. The event will mark the tour’s first time back to the London, ON speedway since 2011.
“I’m not really sure what to expect,” admits Hawn when asked about the 50-lap affair. “I’ve only raced at Delaware a couple of times – so I think I’ll be using that afternoon practice session as much as the rookies will. It’s a tough spot to figure out, but it’s incredibly fast. Which, really, just means you had better get a good feel for it early if you don’t want to end up with your car in a basket”
The Oro Station, ON driver is looking to follow-up on a strong 7th place finish in Round 2 of the tour at Sunset on June 6th.
“We’ve never had this chassis at Delaware – so there are a few question marks heading in,” says Hawn. “We just need to get a read for the track early, and find out what the car wants to do. I don’t think our situation is much different than a lot of guys on this roster. If we can get a hold of where the car feels right, we’ll be ok. If we have to start chasing it – we could be in for a long night”
Hawn will look to utilize a strong run in heat race qualifying to put his No. 42 in position for his team’s first career top-5 finish.
“Starting position is going to be so important, so we’ll be looking to get up on the wheel in our heat races,” notes ‘Kodiak’. “There’s a chance we could get a long green flag run in the feature, and if that happens we definitely don’t want to be starting in the back”
“Our goal is to race smart and load the car in one piece at the end of the night,” continues the up-and-comer. “Blowing our primary motor on Night 1 pretty much exhausted our entire repair budget, so we can’t afford to be knocking body panels off to move up a single position”
After running amongst the leaders in his previous appearance at Sunset, Hawn hopes to implement a conservative strategy at Delaware.
“This is a good car – we just have to take care of it. If we can make it through whatever early-race craziness there is, I sincerely think we have a chance at a top-5 finish.”
