Sauble Beach, ON (June 24, 2017)- After putting in the hard work through the winter, Travis McLean is ready to make his debut behind the wheel of a super stock at Sauble Speedway’s season opener on Saturday, June 24.
Going into the opening night, he says that he is “really looking forward to the new challenge of moving up to a higher division,” with his expectations based on the fact there is a lot to learn in going up a class. With that in mind, the goals are to “run top-10, and perhaps get a heat win” while hopeful of picking up the Rookie of the Year Award.
McLean has already gotten his first laps behind the wheel of his car, doing some testing leading up to his much anticipated debut.
“After testing there were some major differences,” he said. “Starting with double the horsepower, a much heavier car as well as the rear wheel drive. I found you really have to be up on the wheel driving these cars but it is a lot of fun.”
The move up a division comes after a successful outing at the Mini Stock level, which included success throughout last season.
“I was extremely happy with the progress of our team last year,” he said. “We were able to win races and finished the season with a top-five points finish and most improved driver award.”
While McLean and team are going through some changes, Sauble Speedway has some of their own as a new management team is in-place, led by Paul Gresel and Mark Dilley.
“I believe with the new ownership, there will be many new and exciting things happening at the speedway,” he said. “I can’t wait to see the speedway become the No. 1 attraction in Sauble Beach.”
