DURHAM< ON (February 13, 2019)- After a successful campaign, Travis McLean will be heading home for the 2019 season, announcing his intentions to compete at Full Throttle Motor Speedway.

“It means a great deal to be returning to Full Throttle this season,” he said. “Full Throttle is where it started for me and I love this track. Coming back with the experience I have gained we are expecting great things.”

It’s no surprise to see a McLean back behind the wheel on the quarter-mile bullring, with the rich history at the speedway that has seen several family members reach victory lane. This year, his return is made special with the track celebrating it’s 50th anniversary.

“Our family history runs deep at Full Throttle back to when my grandfather Morley started racing at Varney 50 years ago,” he said. “There has been a McLean race at their track every season and I’m proud to carry on the tradition.”

After getting his career started at Full Throttle, McLean ran his past three seasons at Sauble Speedway. Despite the change for the 2019 campaign, he intends to head back up to the beach at least once this year.

“With that said we give great respect to all the staff and racers at Sauble Speedway,” he added. “We had a great time running there the last three seasons and we will still make some starts if our schedule will allow.”

The trip home should produce some comfort for McLean, with a focus on scoring some feature victories in 2019.

“We are looking to be a top-five car every night but there is going to be some very tough competition so it is going to be interesting,” he said. “We probably won’t be chasing points because my dad (Derek McLean) is committed to crewing for my uncle Gary (McLean)’s super late model/modified team as well.”

McLean feels the time is now for him to have success, after having spent the couple years learning what feel he needs to make a rear-wheel drive car fast as evident by some strong finishes last year. On top of a victory mid-season at FTMS, he was able to top-15’s in the year-end invitationals at Sunset Speedway and Peterborough Speedway.

“If you look at our finishes last season at the end, we were in the thick of it with the leaders,” he commented. “I feel we have earned some respect as a team and a driver that they know how they race us is how we will race them.”

The success in those invitational events has seen McLean Motorsports put Jukasa Motor Speedway and the Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough on the schedule, on top of the races planned at Full Throttle.

“It is likely we will make some starts at Sauble and Sunset, and we would like to also try Flamboro since I’ve never been there,” McLean added.
