July 27, 2013- Castrol Edge Dodge driver DJ Kennington was poised to continue his consistent year during round seven of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series this past weekend at the Autodrome St. Eustache. However a part failure turned their night to disappointment
During practice sessions the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge was among the quickest cars on the flat 4/10 mile oval just outside Montreal. Kennington and the team continued to fine tune their machine during the sessions and felt confident for the 250 lap race.
Starting from the fifth position on the grid it wasn’t long after the green flag fell that Kennington began moving the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge forward.
“The car felt really solid, I could run right along the bottom or even the outside if necessary” said Kennington.
Settling into a steady pace with the lead group in the early going the strategy was to be near the front in the closing stages and race hard to the end. Those plans changed dramatically as Kennington sensed a problem with the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge.
“I knew right away something big was wrong” explained Kennington. “The back end of the car was all over the place”.
Kennington immediately dove for pit road and the crew found a broken trailing arm bracket. Though the team worked feverishly to make repairs their fate was sealed. Many laps down the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge returned to action and completed as many laps as possible knowing every championship point is important.
“It’s just one of those things that happens” said a disappointed driver. “We go over every inch of the car before it leaves the shop and then again at the race track but you just can’t predict when a part is going to break. Sure it hurt us a bit but this kind of setback only makes us work harder at the next race”.
After seven events DJ Kennington is now third in the overall championship standings.
DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team are back in action next at the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres August 11th in Trois-Rivieres, QC.
