AYR, ON – In 2017, Adam Martin was the top rookie on Canada’s national NASCAR stock car circuit. On Sunday at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, the 20-year-old from Ayr, ON kicked off his sophomore season with a 10th-place finish in a large and competitive field at the legendary 10-turn road course.
Driving the No. 19 Johnsonville Sausages / Candy Tree / Reser’s / Bush’s Baked Beans / STIHL / Secure Drive / Little Potato Co. / Legacy Auto Credit Ford Fusion, Martin lined up eighth on the 22-car grid for the 51-lap Clarington 200. The field was set based on last year’s final standings after rain and fog, on Saturday, cancelled qualifying.
While Martin is entering his second full season of NASCAR Pinty’s Series (NPS) competition with added experience and confidence, there is one major part of his program that is new for 2018. During the off-season, Adam made the move to the Jacombs Racing team, which has won multiple NASCAR championships over the years, including most recently last season with driver Alex Labbé.
During Sunday’s race, Adam ran as high as seventh but was shuffled back a few spots during a late-race restart and came home with a top 10 result in the NPS season opener. All-in-all, it was an encouraging start to the season which will see the No. 19 Johnsonville Ford team compete in a total of 13 races across Canada, including Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia.
“I’m really happy with our first race with Jacombs Racing,” said Adam Martin, after the event. “The team prepared a fantastic car and the pit stops were awesome. I look forward to working with them and all of us getting to know each other better with every race. It’s great working with Dave Jacombs, Randy Smith and the entire team at the shop. And our weekend at the track went really well under the leadership of our crew chief Ron Easton.”
Looking to the future, Martin left CTMP excited at the prospect of returning to the track in late August during the big NASCAR Camping World Truck Series weekend.
“Based on how this weekend went working with Jacombs Racing for the first time, I’m really looking forward to getting back here on August 26; I know we can do even better. I’m also excited about our first oval race together, on June 16 at Jukasa Motor Speedway, south of Hamilton (ON).”
The beautiful 5/8-mile Jukasa oval – formerly known as Cayuga Speedway – re-opened in 2017 after extensive renovations to the track and facility and played host to the NPS season finale last September.
