Bowmanville, ON –(Monday, September 5, 2022) – Yesterday the NASCAR Pinty’s Series took its last trip to a road course for the 2022 season at the infamous Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Treyten Lapcevich finished fifth and Alex Tagliani finished sixth in the WeatherTech 200.
The race weekend began on Saturday, September 3 with practice and qualifying. Treyten Lapcevich and his No. 20 FBM / RGC Sports / Qwick Wick Chevrolet Camaro secured the fourth fastest time in practice. Alex Tagliani and his No. 18 Viagra / St Hubert Chevrolet Camaro secured the tenth fastest time in practice. Later in the day the official qualifying session began: Treyten Lapcevich qualified fourth and Alex Tagliani qualified seventh.
Tagliani won at CTMP in 2018, finished second in 2021, and when visiting the track in May 2022, he came just short again, finishing second. In Lapcevich’s first-ever visit to CTMP in 2021 he finished third and earlier this year he took home sixth. When they visited the track this weekend both drivers were on a mission to secure another solid finish.
On Sunday, September 4 at 1:00 p.m. the command to start the engines was given and the WeatherTech 200 was underway. The drivers quickly began working on their pit stop strategy when they would come in for fuel and tires.
For it being only his third time at the track Treyten Lapcevich proved again that he is a major contender. “We had a little problem with our fuel stop and then we had another problem with our tire stop, we got a one lap penalty. So after we got our lap back we were fast though,” Lapcevich said.
He quickly marched back to the top 10, and then into the top five. With four laps to go Lapcevich was chasing down another car who chopped him and made contact, setting Lapcevich back. Despite some difficulties Treyten Lapcevich came home with a fifth place finish.
In regards to the No. 18 car, “the team did a fantastic job in the pits, on the track with the strategy. I think we extracted everything we could out of the car, overall the pace of the car was not so bad. I think where we were underperforming was in the straightaways, somehow we were not very quick and that’s where the pace was lacking against the competition, so it was very difficult to fight on restarts,” Alex Tagliani said.
Regardless of the car struggles Tagliani showcased his road course driving talent and experience walking away with a sixth place finish.
The NASCAR Pinty’s Series 2022 season comes to a conclusion on Sunday, September 25th at Delaware Speedway with what is sure to be an exciting final race for the championship.
