ORLANDO, ON- 2-time Ontario Legends Series champion Nick Ledson kicked off the 2015 INEX Winternationals at Orlando Speedworld with a 5th place finish in Legends Semi-Pro competition.
“My arms were a little tired after that one,” smiled Ledson post-race. “We developed a nasty push around the halfway mark”
“I couldn’t get the drive off the corner that I needed. The cautions seemed to fall at the right times, because I was fighting this thing pretty hard and needed a rest”
The Cookstown, ON driver stormed from 11th on the grid, utilizing both grooves of the Central Florida facility to move through traffic.
“I’ve never been known for my qualifying skills, so we started off the day in a bit of a hole,” explained Ledson. “There’s a lot of talented drivers here, so I knew that starting outside of the top-10 meant we were going to have to do some digging”
“The outside of this track is so wore out that it’s really not easy to make a pass up there,” continued the Ontario standout. “We chose to restart on the outside a couple times, and it worked out for us today. It’s a lot more work up there, but if you can get your car to cooperate, you can really make up some ground”
The 5th place result gives Ledson hope for the rest of the week, as the team prepares for Day 2 of competition on Tuesday.
“There are 28 cars here this week, and at least 15 of them could come away with a win. A top-5 to start off the week is definitely something to be proud of. We’re going to do our homework and sort out our handling condition for tomorrow”
“If we can get this car to roll the center better, I really think we’ll be able to jump up into the mix and race for a win or two.”
