SAUBLE BEACH, ON- Sauble Speedway Ltd. Late Model heavyweight Jason Parker continued his incredible 2014 campaign on August 9th, overcoming an ill-handling car for a 4th place finish in 35-lap competition.
“This really has been a dream season. Even on the bad nights, we’ve still been able to find a way to make it work”, said Parker. “We race to win, every time out of the trailer. We didn’t hit victory lane tonight, but we’re happy to keep our streak of top-5s alive”
After dominating Sauble’s Ltd. Late Model division through much of the 2014 season – tallying 4th feature wins and finishing on the podium in all but one race this year – Parker appeared to struggle in the early portions of August 9th’s event.
“We had to put our work boots on today”, explained Parker. “This car was a bit of a handful in practice and qualifying. It kept us guessing, that’s for sure. We took a big swing at it, just before the feature, and that made it a bit more driveable. But we still have work to do”
“I’m not going to complain about a 4th place finish”, continued ‘The New Age Punisher’, “especially because we didn’t feel much like a 4th place car earlier today. We made the best of the hand we were dealt tonight”
The top-5 finish keeps Parker atop the Ltd. Late Model point standings, as the Port Elgin, ON veteran now stands just 2 nights away from his 3rd career Sauble Speedway championship.
“We’re so close to the championship, I just want to bring it home for my team”, said Parker. “These guys have been with me a long time, and they’ve put up with a couple rough seasons these last few years. I think a track championship would be the perfect way to thank them for their efforts”
“At this point, we just have to drive smart and not push the issue”, continued Parker. “There’s no sense driving over our head and junking our stuff to make up a single spot. We’re going to take what we can get, which is exactly what we did tonight”
Jason Parker’s McColl Racing Enterprises chassis is proud to carry marketing support from Prestige General Contractors, Saugeen Shores Transmission, MacDonnell Fuels, BAXI / Marathon Industries, Keeprite, Candue Homes, Ron Gibbons Construction and Crabby Joe’s of Port Elgin/Hanover.
Parker’s familiar No. 8 will be back on track at Sauble Speedway this Saturday, August 16th. Details, including gate times and ticket prices, can be found at www.SaubleSpeedway.ca.
