INNISFIL, ON- Former Waterloo Regional Kart Club champion Jerrid Morphy continued his impressive freshman season with the Canadian Vintage Modifieds on June 7th, registering an 8th place finish in his first ever visit to Sunset Speedway.
“This was exactly the level of improvement we were hoping for”, said a visibly excited Morphy post-race.
“Our debut at Flamboro was all about getting our feet wet and learning about the car and what it’s capable of”, continued the New Hamburg, ON driver, “I felt a lot more comfortable tonight, which tells me all the practice laps we’ve been logging are paying off”
Morphy avoided a number of mid-race scuffles, bringing his Young Drivers of Canada No. 14 home without a scratch.
“The feature got a little crazy towards the end”, commented Morphy. “Guys getting a little impatient, trying to get to the front by any means necessary. I was definitely mindful of that, and was happy to avoid the contact”
Post-race, Morphy explained how pleased he is with his team’s progress just two races into the 2014 season.
“To move from Karting to oval racing is such a huge adjustment. I’m incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by quality people who have made the transition as smooth as possible. Also, I can’t say enough about the drivers in this club, they’ve been incredibly helpful and more than willing to point me in the right direction. We’ve got a stout piece, and I can’t wait to keep learning, improving and eventually earning the chance to show how good our equipment really is”
Jerrid will be back in action on June 21st, when the Canadian Vintage Modified Tour returns to Flamboro Speedway for Race #3 of their 2014 season.
Jerrid Morphy Racing’s 2014 season is powered by Young Drivers of Canada, Steve Lyons of Creative Edge Signs & Graphics and Ron Easton of Oakville Trailers.
