DURHAM, ON- As his freshman season with the OSCAAR Modified Tour hits the midway portion; Tommy Robb has his eyes fixed on his first career appearance at Capital City Speedway.
“The fact that not a single driver on this tour knows what to expect, is what has me so excited”, beams Robb when asked about Round 6 of the OSCAAR Modified Tour’s 2014 schedule. “This is a complete crapshoot. It’s anybody’s race. What’s more exciting than that?”
The former Ltd. Late Model regular, a veteran of Varney Motor Speedway’s tight confines, anticipates the afternoon practice sessions to play an enormous role in who will find their way to the front once the green flag drops.
“I’m not sure if there’s an event on the schedule that has guys guessing as much as this one does”, admits Robb. “I know we’ll be logging a tonne of practice laps trying to figure the track out. I think you’ll see most teams spending as much time as they can on track. The pressure is going to be on our team to find the quick way around before the guys next to us”
“You have to take as much information as you can, from each practice session, and apply it to your race setup”, continues Robb. “Because once you’re out there, 30-lap goes by in an awful hurry, and you have to make it work”
Despite having never laid eyes on the 3/8 mile facility, Robb insists he’s scouted the location as best he could prior to the OSCAAR Modified Tour’s inaugural visit.
“I’ve been watching YouTube videos like crazy”, says Robb with a smile. “On-board cameras, track side videos, anything I can find. Unfortunately, that will only get us so far. The real pressure will be on once we step foot through the pit gate on July 5th”
