DURHAM, ON- OSCAAR Modified Tour sophomore Tommy Robb aims to continue his streak of top-10 finishes this Friday, July 10th at Delaware Speedway.
The event will mark Robb’s second ever visit to Delaware Speedway, as he looks to position his family-owned No. 88R into contention for his first top-5 of 2015.
“There is no other track on the schedule that has my attention the way Delaware does,” explains the well-liked tour regular. “Our team had no experience there before we jumped onto the [OSCAAR] Modified Tour. I broke in my heat race there last season – so this Friday is going to be all about hitting that ‘reset’ button for us”
The half-mile facility stands as the fastest track on the OSCAAR schedule, and Robb – nicknamed ‘Relentless’ – is quick to note just how pressure will be placed on a driver’s abilities when at high speeds.
“He who can react the quickest will be the one in victory lane at the end of the night,” says Robb matter-of-factly. “Passes happen quick at Delaware, and it seems like wrecks happen even quicker. If you have a good spotter and a quick reaction time, you’ll be ok. If not – it’s like you’re swimming against the current”
“I grew up at Varney, man. A high speed, half mile is like outer space for me. I’m not sure you could find two tracks in the country that are more different than Varney and Delaware. But even though we don’t have the experience to fall back on, we’ve become pretty good at adapting. I think we’ll be alright on Friday”
The team recently battled through early-race contact in Round 3 of the tour at Full Throttle Motor Speedway on June 13th, and is forthcoming about his need for a strong follow-up performance.
“We need a podium finish more than anybody else on this roster,” insists Robb. “I’m sure every driver is saying that right now – but we need it more. This car has been so good this season, and my guys have worked so hard, we just haven’t had the luck to go with it. We’re hoping to turn that around at Delaware”
“Things can change so quickly on this tour. It’s just the nature of the beast,” continues the well-spoken second-year competitor. “You’re always just one good run away from getting on a hot streak”
“We’re going to unload on Friday afternoon with our eyes on a podium finish. It’s going to take some work – but we’ve never been afraid of breaking a sweat. If we can make it through the heat races, I think we have a package that can give anyone a run come feature time.”
