INNISFIL, ON- Sauble Speedway veteran Todd Davenport earned a top-10 finish in Super Stock competition during Sunset Speedway’s Spring Velocity weekend. Though his family-run team is content with a 9th place finish to open their 2015 campaign, Davenport insists they have a lot of work to do.
“Any time you can come out of Sunset with a top-10, it’s a positive,” shrugs Davenport. “But I can’t help but feel we’re leaving something on the table there. We just can’t find the sweet spot that we want. That’s one of our goals for this season is to get better at Sunset. I feel like we’re on the cusp of it, we just need to get better”
The Allenford, ON team battled through handling issues all day, before a bad tire left Davenport scrambling in the 50-lap Super Stock A-Main.
“Once the right rear tire went away, the car was a bit of a handful,” laughs the veteran. “At that point, we were happy just to keep it pointed in the right direction”
Though the end result is in no way indicative of the effort put forth by the team on Sunday, Davenport remains undeterred.
“I’m real careful not to let the team get too down on themselves,” says ‘Biff’. “We have a great car and a great program – we just need a little bit of luck. It’s tough not to get frustrated when you come down here and can’t get the run that you know you’re capable of. We’re capable of running at the front here – there’s no doubt about that. So, it’s a little disappointing when we’re not able to do that”
“I can’t take anything away from the teams down here, they really are some of the best around,” continues Davenport. “These guys have personnel and equipment in the province. I know that we have what it takes to race with them, we just need to put in the work to get there.”
Davenport will return to action on Saturday, June 7th at Sauble Speedway. Details, including gate times and ticket prices, can be found at www.SaubleSpeedway.ca.
