June 4, 2013- The Spring Series has reached the half way point with five of the 10 races now complete.
While some people consider the Beginner division the starting point of a young racers career, it certainly does not mean that these 6-9 year olds do not race. This week it was Paige Smith/Woodstock beating the boys when she went 2-1-2 for the overall win this week. Rayse Meyer/Courtland followed in second with Logan Lapiere-Caissie of Brantford and Aiden Maynard/Blenheim deadlocked in a tie for third.
Strangely, the Junior results were flipped this week as the drivers who have been doing their share of winning found themselves bumped down in the nights standings.
Scott Hall from Wilsonville only missed second by one point as Tillsonburg’s Tom Pellazzarri edged him for the position. Jacob Sheridan (Mt Brydges) has been looking for his lost speed this year and I would have to say he found it last night going 1-2-1 for the top spot. The Spring Series point standings remain very close in this group with five race dates left on the schedule.
During the drivers meeting, it was announced that Bea Courtnage had some homework that just had to get done, so stepping into her kart would be her father, Mark.
Mark has been in the kart a time or two but not yet this year so you never know what is going to happen. In the end it was Rookie Eric McGlone, from Union taking third, while Mark Courtnage sat in second with daughter Kate Courtnage winning the overall, despite having to come from the rear more than once.
On another note, a welcome and a shout out to new racer Ty Freeman of St Thomas, who managed to get though his first night without wrecking a wing. Truly a good first night out.
The Experts have settled into the season with four different winners in five weeks. The season standings are just as close.
Scott Kelly (winning the time trials) and Dave Chesterman were tied in 4th and 5th places respectively, each only one point behind third place finisher Scott Chesterman. Second place went to Cody Coburn courtesy of his feature win, but claiming the overall this week was Holly Porter, going 3-1-4.
A reminder to our racers: The Junior and Senior division’s will be travelling to Wonderland Speedway on Friday June 21, 2013. Wonderland has never had kids racing before so this will be a treat for racers and spectators. This will be a points race for these divisions.
Wonderland gates open at 6 pm. The following week, our Expert Division travels to Wonderland.
