@NASCAR •#NASCARPintysSeries •@hondaindy •Toronto, ON (July 16, 2016)- David Thorndyke and the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet team returned to action in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series this past Saturday as the series raced as part of the Toronto Indy weekend for the first time in several years. Thorndyke soldiered through the concrete lined course to gain six spots during the race.
With the return to the streets of Toronto around Exhibition Place it was a challenge the driver of the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet to get accustomed to the difficult street course.
“With the entire track lined with concrete it can be a little intimidating,” said Thorndyke.
As the race began Saturday afternoon Thorndyke took his usual, steady and successful approach to moving forward in the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet. “I always try to race guys clean and give everyone room, that’s especially important on a track like this. But I also want to gain as many positions as possible” stated the driver.
Thorndyke’s plan was working for much of the afternoon and during the race developed a comfortable rhythm in the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet and was clicking off lap times nearly four seconds quicker than his qualifying run.
Following the second and final caution period of the afternoon Thorndyke was again looking to gain wherever he could in the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet during the closing laps. Over those final laps things got a little more physical and some of the bodywork on the car took a bit of a beating.
“We had ourselves a pretty good day, the car felt good and I was happy with how we were running. It got a bit heated in the late going and we had a bit of contact. Nothing structural. Overall though I’m happy to gain six spots during the race. We’ll look to do even better next time out,” said Thorndyke.
David Thorndyke and the #67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet team will be in action next during the NASCAR Truck Series weekend September 4th at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
