The Super Production Challenge series presented the last two rounds of its 2023 season last Saturday at the Complexe ICAR. On the first lap of Race 1, which took place in the morning, experienced driver Jacques Gravel has been involved in a crash while driving his Super Production class BMW 330i.
The two-time series champion, who had just started his 100th career SPC race, went over the safety barriers at turn 2 after an unintentional contact with another driver. Following this racing incident, Jacques Gravel was evacuated from his car and transferred first to the St-Jérôme hospital and then to the Sacré-Coeur Hospital in Montreal. The burst of a dorsal vertebra was diagnosed by the medical staff.
Jacques Gravel was conscious and alert throughout the track evacuation process. The first responders did a remarkable job, which Jacques himself would like to recall: “First, I want to thank the intervention teams on site at the Complexe ICAR during this event, as well as the doctors and all the staff who took care of me with great attention and who made sure that my injuries did not have irremediable consequences” indicated Jacques Gravel. “I was diagnosed with a fracture in the D12 vertebra. The recovery process will be long but I am in good spirits and I thank all the people, especially the members of the SPC series, who have contacted my family and friends to have news in the last hours,” he added.
