GRIMSBY, ON- After a breakout 2013 campaign, third-generation pilot Cayden Lapcevich has confirmed he will return to Sunset Speedway’s Super Stock division in 2014.
“We had our fair share of ups and downs last year, but we didn’t give up and we learned alot as a team”, says Lapcevich.
The 14-year old closed out his 2013 campaign with a head- turning performance at Flamboro’s ‘Frost Fest’ invitational, sweeping both ends of a twin-30 lapper, competing against some of the top Super Stock drivers in Ontario.
“Frost Fest was one of the greatest nights of my life”, explains Cayden. “That was one of the best fields I’ve ever raced against. I was proud of my whole team that day. We didn’t let our competition intimidate us, we stuck to our game plan and I was fortunate enough to get my first win”.
When discussing his third-year of competition at Sunset, it’s clear ‘The Prodigy’ is eager to get back to his winning ways.
“Getting that first victory was an incredible feeling”, admits Lapcevich. “We had been so close, so many times and were never able to close the deal. My team and family were so supportive. They never gave up on me, even when I was beating myself up. So, now that we have our first win in the books, I can’t wait to get back out there and get our second”.
Despite the boost of confidence after his Frost Fest triumph, Cayden maintains there’s still a long way to go.
“I still have alot to learn. Coming over from Quarter Midgets to the Super Stock division was a huge adjustment. As long as I can leave the speedway with the car in one piece, knowing that I learned something new, it’s a good night”.
In addition to a full slate of competition at Sunset, Cayden hopes to launch a touring program that will take his family- run operation across Ontario, if marketing support can be found.
“We’d love to travel as much as possible, so we’re hoping to sign a few more sponsors before the season starts”, explains Lapcevich. “I want to learn as much as I can and race as much as I can”.
Lapcevich will receive associate sponsorship from Tim Hortons, Troy Cove Marine and Springers Meats.
Cayden will begin his season on May 3rd when Sunset Speedway kicks off its 2014 campaign. To find out when Cayden will be headed to a speedway near you, visit www.LapcevichRacing.ca or follow ‘The Prodigy’ on Twitter @CaydenLapcevich.
