GRIMSBY, ON- Two-time Sunset Speedway Super Stock champion Cayden Lapcevich will look to claim his first Autumn Colours Classic triumph at Peterborough Speedway this weekend. The event, which runs from October 9th-11th, is guaranteed to draw the very best in the Thunder Car division, with champions from across Ontario set to converge on Peterborough for the province’s Crown Jewel invitational.

‘The Prodigy’ secured the pole starting position for the A Main on Sunday by virtue of winning Peterborough’s ‘Chase for the Colours’ qualifying event on August 15th.

“There isn’t a bigger event for these cars anywhere in Ontario. This is it,” says Lapcevich when asked about the magnitude of the weekend. “This is the one that everyone wants. I’ve wanted to win this race from the first moment I stepped into the Peterborough pit area years ago. Starting on the pole is a huge asset for us – I just have to make sure not to waste that opportunity”

Just two weeks after winning his second consecutive Velocity 250 at Sunset Speedway, the Grimsby, ON native will step right back into action in a field that is likely to feature a multitude of track champions, blue chip prospects and past event winners.

“The competition doesn’t get any better than what you’ll see at Peterborough this weekend,” explains the teenager. “That’s the perfect motivator. This is the race that really lets you know that you’ve arrived if you can win it”

“I’ve talked to a lot of guys that have won it before and they all tell me the same thing – nothing compares to it,” adds Lapcevich. “We’ve had a fantastic season at Sunset, but none of that matters when we get to ‘the Classic’. It’s an entirely different game out there”

And, although his familiar Tim Hortons No. 76 will roll off the grid in the coveted pole position, Lapcevich knows it won’t take more than a quick slip-up to find himself under pressure from the rest of the talent-laden field.

“The fact that Peterborough is an incredibly tough track to pass at puts the ball in our court. But, I have to be perfect if I want to stay at the front,” offers the two-time Sunset Speedway champion. “Because, if I’m not, there will be someone behind me ready to shuffle me backwards. This will be the most competitive field we’ll race against all season, and we’ll definitely need to keep that in mind all weekend long”

With a handful of marquee event victories under his belt since his stock car debut in 2012, Lapcevich insists that a Peterborough Speedway victory would stand apart from all the rest.

“We’ve won the Velocity and we’ve won Frostfest – but I badly want to add a win at the Autumn Colours Classic to our resume,” admits the third-generation racer. “I couldn’t think of a better way to close out our year”

“We’ve been fortunate enough to have raced against some incredibly tough fields this season, and I think they’ve prepared us for what we’re up against at Peterborough. It’s taken a lot of late nights to get ready for this event – but if we can pull off the win it will all have been worth it.”

Cayden Lapcevich and team will have T Shirts and Hoodies on sale all weekend long at Peterborough Speedway, with proceeds being added to Lapcevich Racing’s yearlong efforts to raise funds and awareness for the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation.

Support for Cayden Lapcevich’s 2015 endeavors is provided by Tim Hortons, Castrol, Cathcart Trucking, Springers Meats, EPIC Racewear and Troy Cove Marine.
