Toronto, ON. (August 04, 2020)- The Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge Canada one-make virtual race series was held this past Thursday, fittingly, at the famed Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Brandon Hawkin from Lindsay, ON, added another victory thereby becoming the undisputed champion of the series. One of 30 racers in the series, he has won every single race.
“It was incredible to see the group of talented sim racers we have across Canada push each other in the virtual racing world,” said Marc Ouayoun, President and CEO, Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd. “Congratulations to all the competitors, especially to Brandon Hawkin, as he will have the chance to bring his skill sets to life at Porsche Track Experience in the very near future.”
At the end of the last race, he had a surprise burst as he was being challenged by William Levesque and let him go by to retain his top position in the series results. However, in the last few laps Levesque went slightly outside track limits and had a penalty that forced him to slow down, allowing Hawkin to re-pass and regain first position.
“The series was organized very professionally and it was a pleasure to race with everyone – what a fantastic experience,” said Hawkin. “It will be extremely memorable based on how competitive the series was with lots of track battles.”
William Levesque ranked second while Giovanni Romano came in third place of the championship.
As the winner of the first Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge Canada, Hawkin now has the opportunity to get behind the wheel of one of the brand’s sports cars at a Porsche Experience program. All other racers in the series received Porsche prizes and iRacing credits for their participation.
“Driving a Porsche on track is something I’ve wanted to do since I was a child,” added Hawkin. “I’m so excited and thankful that I’ll now get that chance and join the Porsche Track Experience program!”
