INNISFIL, ON- Twelve-year old sophomore Jake Watson opened his 2014 campaign at Sunset Speedway’s ‘Spring Derby’, earning an 18th place finish against some of the top ranked drivers in the province.
“This was one of the best fields I’ve ever raced against”, commented Watson post-race. “My Dad gave me an awesome car tonight, I can’t thank him enough. We’re going to use this race as a measuring stick for our season. We kept up with some of the best guys in the division, which tells us that we’re heading in the right direction”
The third-generation pilot will compete fulltime at Sunset in 2014, with hopes of earning his first career division victory, after a solid Karting career with the Waterloo Regional Kart Club.
“I had a tough time figuring Sunset out in my Rookie season”, admitted Watson. “But every time we race here, I feel like I’m getting a little better. With some more seat time, I’m excited to see what our program is capable of”
“Dad and I agreed over the off-season that racing here fulltime is the only way to get better. We want to compete against the top guys. It’s the only way I’m going to improve. I’m excited to learn everything that I can from some of the veterans here”.
Jake will return to action at Sunset Speedway on May 10th, in the first regular season Mini Stock event on the Sunset schedule.
