INNISFIL, ON- Fresh off of a 5th place performance at Sunset Speedway’s season opening ‘Spring Derby 35’ on May 4th, Brandon McFerran was back in action on May 10th and returned to form, registering a 4th place result.
“This field doesn’t get any easier from week to week”, remarked McFerran in post-race debriefing. “These guys and girls really are the best in the province, a top-4 here tells you that you’re definitely doing something right”
McFerran struggled with his car’s setup for much of the day, working with Crew Chief and Father Ron McFerran to find a suitable combination for his No. 64 Mustang.
“We earned a top-3 in our qualifier, which was awesome, because we didn’t have a great car”, admitted McFerran. “It’s funny, all I could complain about last week was how loose we were, and tonight all I could complain about was how tight we were”
“It’s all about padding the notebook”, continued the personable 15-year old. “We didn’t hit the setup perfectly, but for every night we fight this car, we have more information on how it’s going to react in certain scenarios. Which definitely helps as we move through the season”
Come feature time, ‘The Astronaut’ enjoyed a fantastic battle for position with close friend Andy Kamrath, as the two went heads-up for a spot in the top-5.
“That battle with Kamrath was the highlight of my night”, reflected McFerran with a smile. “We’ve known each other a long time. And now that he’s come down from Limited Late Model to Mini Stock, to be able to have battles like that, it keeps the fun alive in what we’re doing every Saturday”
Brandon McFerran’s 4th place finish would not have been possible without his marketing partners, Peter D. Laird Transport, Road Ranger, Fast Eddie Racewear, East End Car Wash, Creative Edge Graphics, Finish Line Painting & Restoration, DS McClure Farms, EPIC Racewear by OnePromo.ca and AMD Electric.
