Trois-Rivieres (Quebec, Canada), August 11, 2020 – Louis-Philippe Dumoulin and Team #47 WeatherTech Canada Groupe Bellemare will be racing for the first time this season at Sunset Speedway (Innisfil, Ontario) on Saturday, August 15, for two races of 125 laps each. The NASCAR Pinty’s Series visited the one-third mile oval in 2015 and 2016, a track much appreciated by oval track specialists for its high-banked turns.
The starting grid for the first race will be determined based on the 2019 Owner’s Championship season standings, and the starting grid for the second race will be based on the results of the first 125-lap race.
Louis-Philippe Dumoulin is ready to tackle the track, both physically and mentally
“I’m so happy to be back on the track, I’m ready. Given the shortened season, it is most important for our team to maximize the exposure for our partners by doing our usual great job but also by finding new ways to increase their visibility over the shortened season. The support of WeatherTech Canada and Groupe Bellemare is more important than ever this year. During the downtime, the support of Karting Trois-Rivieres and PSL Karting, one of the most important kart preparation businesses in America, located 12 minutes from my home, allowed me to practise on the track using high performance karts. This was particularly effective training for my visual acuity and reflexes, as well as physical fitness. We work with their team every year and I want to thank them for helping me prepare for my return to racing.”
The driver of the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare car has his roots on road courses but, is now just as effective on oval courses as a driver and for set-ups and race management. He explained the peculiarities of the Sunset Speedway track:
“I like to race on this type of track. When we went there in 2015-2016, Dumoulin Competition was starting as a preparer and we did not have the experience we have today. The suspension geometry and settings were very different from what we use today. We did some testing at Autodrome Chaudiere recently and we will go back there next week because the track layout is very similar to Sunset Speedway. We have good cars and we continued to improve our equipment over this past winter. Staring with our best setup from pre-race practice, we will have to determine and install the best settings we found during the testing period before the race, then do it again given what we learned in the first 125 lapper during the 45-minute break, in time for the second race. The whole day will be very intense for every member of the team, but that is what it takes when you are going for wins and championships. Over the last few seasons, we have raced under similar conditions and came away with wins and podium finishes on short tracks like this one, so we are more than up for the challenge.”
Shortened 2020 Season, Without Spectators
The NASCAR Pinty’s Series announced on August 4 a three-event series, each comprised to two 125-lap races, to be held respectively at Sunset Speedway (Innisfil, Ontario – August 15), Flamboro Speedway (Millgrove, Ontario – August 29) and Jukasa (Hagersville, Ontario – September 12). Special circumstances and public health standards require the promoters hold the events behind closed doors and limit the number of crew members on site. “Our fans are an integral part of the events and without them, the atmosphere will not be the same. It’s fun to have people around all day. I love the autograph sessions, where we have the time to talk to everyone, especially to parents who are passing on their passion to their children. I’m going to miss that a lot,” concluded the driver of the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare.
