HILLSDALE, ON- ‘The Hillsdale Hurricane’ Thayne Hallyburton is ready for the final points paying event of the 2014 Sunset Speedway season. The Hallyburton Brothers Racing representative, alongside the rest of the Ltd. Late Model roster, will go for 100 green flag laps on Saturday, September 13th to settle the championship point standings.
“This is going to be a big race”, says Hallyburton. “You can feel it. There’s an energy around this event and we don’t even have any cars in the pits yet”
“A 100-lap event is the perfect way to close out our year. I feel more comfortable in extended distance races. I like to settle into a groove, and a 100-lap race will allow me to do that much more than our typical 50-lap races do”
Hallyburton has struggled with his Port City by Baker chassis through the back half of the season, though a crucial two-week break has allowed the team to reformat their setup in a way that has Hallyburton confident for September 13th’s event.
“I can’t say enough about Kyle Baker, he’s done such incredible work for our team this year”, explains Hallyburton. “We put in a lot of hours in the shop over the past two weeks and were able to find quite a few different issues that were holding us back. I’m expecting to have a completely different feeling car on Saturday night and I’m really looking forward to it”
For Hallyburton, strategy is likely to play a crucial role in being in contention for victory when the race begins to wind down.
“We just have to take care of our equipment”, offers the well-spoken up-and-comer. “As the driver, that’s 100% of my job through the first 75-laps of this event. Everything is going to happen in the last 25-laps. If we keep our car under us, and have the tires and brakes necessary to make a late-race push, we’ll be in good position”
“I want to make sure our car is within striking distance when my spotter comes over the radio and tells me there’s 25-laps to go. That’s where my focus is heading into this event”
