HILLSDALE, ON- Fresh off of a top-5 finish at Peterborough Speedway’s ‘Chase for the Colours’ invitational, Thayne Hallyburton is more than ready to get back to weekly competition at Sunset Speedway as part of the 2014 ‘Super Series’.
“It’s always nice to have a strong run out on the road, but man oh man I want to come home”, says Hallyburton with a laugh. “I’m happy we were able to stay sharp by racing at Peterborough, because a two week break [from Sunset] is an eternity for a racecar driver”
‘The Hillsdale Hurricane’ has made noticeable gains with his 2014 Port City Racecars chassis, since debuting the ride in May.
“When it comes to a new car, you get what you put in”, explains Hallyburton. “We’ve done a tonne of work in terms of figuring this car out, and it’s all starting to pay off now. The practice laps, the note taking and the hours in the shop have paid of tenfold”
“My team has been fantastic through this process”, continues the eldest of the racing Hallyburton brothers. “I can’t thank anyone that’s laid hands on this car, enough. This season has been a team effort, without question”
The Hillsdale Service Centre No. 14 team will enter the back-half of the 2014 season in search of their first victory at Sunset, a moment Thayne feels is drawing closer with each passing week.
“Every Saturday, when we load up, I know we’re closer to that first win”, says Hallyburton as his voice fills with confidence. “We’re making gains. We knew what we were coming up against when we announced our intentions to race at Sunset fulltime, and the level of competition certainly hasn’t let us down. This is the elite of the division, here”
“The top-5 at Peterborough was a motivator, for sure”, adds ‘The Hillsdale Hurricane’. “We’re re-energized and we’re ready to get back to work at Sunset. This weekend marks the midway portion of the season, and there’s no better way to kick off the second half of the schedule than a win”
