HILLSDALE, ON- Thayne Hallyburton has made the best of two off-weeks on the Sunset Speedway schedule. ‘The Hillsdale Hurricane’ has spent a majority of his time in the shop, working to bring his No. 14 Transaxle Truck Parts/Hillsdale Service Centre Chevrolet up to speed for a late-season push.
“A lot of the last two weeks have been dedicated to maintenance”, explained Hallyburton, “it’s getting to the point in the season where the car has taken a few beatings, and we want to make sure that everything is working the way it should”
“The off-weeks came at the perfect time in the schedule. We were able to go through everything with a fine-toothed comb and found a lot of stuff that we likely wouldn’t have without the extra time”
The Hillsdale, ON driver is eager to follow up on a top-10 finish in his most recent outing on August 9th, after making a number of changes to the front end of his Port City by Baker entry.
“We were happy to grab a top-10 with the way the car was handling last time out”, said Hallyburton. “The front end didn’t feel quite right, and now that we’ve had a chance to take a good look at the front suspension, we’re confident we’ve found the problem”
“We found a number of issues in the bump steer. Now that we have them taken care of, we’re confident the car will get back to responding the way we want it to”
As the Sunset Speedway weekly season winds down, Hallyburton is quick to point out is schedule is still far from over.
“There are only two points races left at Sunset, but we intend on racing into October with this car”, said Hallyburton. “That’s why there’s so much riding on the next couple of weeks. We need a strong run to help us build some confidence. This car is fast when it’s running properly, but the mechanical gremlins have been killing us”
“I feel as though, with the changes we’ve made in the last two weeks, this car will be as good as it’s been all season when it gets back to the track. We just need a good outing to get our mojo working”
