HAMILTON, ON- After an impressive part-time campaign with the OSCAAR Modified Tour in 2014, Hamilton, ON’s Terry Baker plans to branch out in 2015.
“The Modified division as a whole is in good shape right now,” says Baker. “The way things are right now, there are 2 or 3 different series that we’re able to support with the same chassis”
After earning a pair of victories with the OSCAAR tour in 2014 – with Baker and rising star Cayden Lapcevich behind the wheel of the Baker Performance No. 26 – Baker will return for a limited campaign with the 4th year tour in 2015.
“I enjoy running with the OSCAAR drivers,” offers Baker. “There’s a lot of talent on that tour. Between the veterans and the up-and-comers, if you can carve out a top-5 in an OSCAAR event, you know that you’ve accomplished something”
In addition to OSCAAR appearances at Flamboro and Delaware, Baker will focus the bulk of his efforts in 2015 on New York’s Holland Speedway.
“I’m excited to see where we stack up against the weekly racers at Holland,” smiles the former Pro 4 Modified standout. “I’ve never raced at Holland before, so we’re definitely going to have some homework to do”
“The decision to race at Holland is a matter of geographical convenience more than anything,” explains Baker. “Our family has a cottage just on the other side of the border, and we can make it to Holland in under an hour. With a growing business and a young family, it just makes more sense to base our program at Holland as opposed to chasing the OSCAAR tour all across Ontario”
When asked where the Holland roster ranks amongst the level of competition he’s used to, it’s clear that Baker has the utmost respect for the Western New York racers.
“The Modified drivers in upstate New York are revered all across the nation,” says Baker. “Guys like Jankowiak, the Catalano family and George Skora are some of the best in the game right now. It’s going to be an honour to race alongside them, but I know that I have my work cut out for me”
With anywhere from 3 to 5 OSCAAR appearances and half dozen races at Holland, Baker expects to keep busy throughout the summer.
“We only raced a handful of times last year, but it definitely brought the itch back,” says Baker with a smile. “Being a business owner and a father definitely comes first, but I hope to be on track as much as possible this year. We might even have a couple more announcements to make before the season gets underway.”
Baker’s 2015 season will be made possible thanks to marketing support from Baker Performance of Hamilton and Permatex. Fans can follow Terry’s progress via his brand new Terry Baker Racing page on Facebook.
