HAMILTON, ON- After concentrating exclusively on his upstart Pro Late Model through the first half of the 2015 season, veteran Terry Baker will switch back to his Open Wheel commitments through the latter half of the Summer. The former Pro-4 Modified standout will look to be as active as possible through the month of August and September – beginning with Holland Speedway’s George Decker Memorial on August 1st.
“No matter how many different cars I race, at the end of the day, the time spent in this Modified is the most fun I’ve ever had behind the wheel,” beams Baker in reference to his Baker Performance of Hamilton-backed Troyer. “I love this car, man. I would race it every night of the week if I could. We’re hoping to make as many starts as we can in it through the month of August”
Baker recently made his return to the OSCAAR Modified Tour for the first time since October – powering to a 4th place finish on July 10th.
“It felt natural getting back it back on track at Delaware,” explains the multi-time tour winner. “We were fast right off the trailer and were able to run with the very best guys on the roster. After having the car in the shop for the last 9 months, that’s a huge boost of confidence. There’s no doubt in my mind that there’s a lot more speed in this car that we haven’t found yet”
In Saturday’s ‘Decker 100’, Baker is likely to find himself pitted against some of the very best Modified drivers from across New York state, in an event largely referred to as one of the most prestigious Sportsman Modified events in the Northeast.
“We’ve been preparing for Holland since November,” says Baker. “For me, it’s just about the perfect speedway for these style of cars. It’s a place where I’ve spent a lot of time as a fan, and I’m really excited to be a part of the ‘Decker 100’. There’s going to be a ton of incredibly good cars there, so hopefully we can put together a package strong enough to run with them”
“If we could drive our way to a podium finish at Holland, in a race as big as ‘the Decker’, it would be one of the biggest moments in my career,” continues Baker with a wide smile. “I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of some pretty big events, against some incredibly good competition, in a lot of different style of racing – but this would rank right near the top of all of it.”
