@11teamturner19 •@CTMotorsports_ •@Merrittville •September 9, 2016) – Caistor Centre, Ontario – Following a busy Labour Day weekend, the Team Turner Racing drivers have just one race on their schedule this week.
Jamie Turner and sons Cory and Ryan started Labour Day weekend by competing in Ohsweken Speedway’s Season Championship Night on Friday. Ryan started 18th in the A-Feature, while Jamie started 12th, and Cory won his heat and drew the pole position.
Both Ryan and Jamie moved forward to finish 10th and 7th respectively, while Cory ended up in the runner-up position for the second week in a row.
“We struggled in the heat race again,” Ryan lamented. “After discussing with the crew, we decided to change almost everything on the car and it worked – the car was fast! Just had too far to go on a hammer-down track. The crew did a great job between the heat race and feature!”
Cory finished 5th in the final Ohsweken championship standings, while Ryan finished 8th, and Jamie finished 9th.
Jamie’s weekend was done after Ohsweken, but Cory and Ryan went to Central New York on Sunday and Monday to race against the Empire Super Sprints tour.
Utica-Rome Speedway was Sunday’s site, where Ryan drove forward from 20th to run in the top 10 before settling for 11th after a late restarter. Cory started 24th, and was also moving forward until a flat right rear tire finished his night.
Monday found the Turner brothers at Weedsport Speedway, where Ryan started 17th and then lost his brakes, eventually salvaging a 19th place finish. Cory started 16th and finished 15th.
“It was great to travel with the ESS to two new tracks to our team,” Ryan exclaimed. “At Utica-Rome we were fast right out of the gate with 2nd in our time trial group. The driver had to get use to hanging it all out on the top of the half mile track. Very happy with our 11th place finish out of 39 cars for our first time out!
“Weedsport was a tight track that took a bit to find the line…felt like we were starting to figure out the track at the end. All in all, it was a great weekend. We feel both the driver and team gained massive amounts of knowledge.”
All three TTR drivers will race Friday night in the final race of the Southern Ontario Sprints tour season this Friday, and then get ready for the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals weekend at Ohsweken Speedway coming up September 15-17
