@11teamturner19 •@CTMotorsports_ •@OhswekenSpdway •@SOSsprints • (August 5, 2016) – Caistor Centre, Ontario – The Team Turner Racing Sprint Car drivers were busy last week, competing in three events over five days at Ohsweken Speedway. Following a weekend off, they’re ready to get back to the track with three events scheduled this weekend.
Jamie Turner and sons Cory and Ryan had a busy night at Ohsweken on July 22. Along with a regularly-scheduled race plus Autograph Night festivities, they also raced in the rescheduled A-Feature which was rained out on July 8.
Ryan’s mechanical issues on July 8 relegated him to start at the back of the makeup feature in his Aces Bar & Grill #91 with Jamie next to him in his Insta-Panels #11, while Cory started 10th in his Hill’s Racing #97. Ryan drove through the field to finish eighth and earn hard charger honours, while Cory finished tenth, and Jamie advanced to 15th.
Good heat races for Ryan and Cory allowed them to start first and fifth respectively in the regularly-scheduled feature, while Jamie started 13th. The team had a great time meeting fans at the autograph session, and then got ready for their second feature race of the night. Ryan stayed near the front of the field, but faded late in the race to finish sixth, while Cory came home seventh and Jamie took 14th.
“The car was a rocket in the first feature,” Ryan noted. “Just needed another caution to finish in the top five. We carried that momentum into the heat, and the crew made the right adjustments for the quickly-changing track. In the (second) feature the car was very good ’til lap 15 when the driver spun the wheels and sealed up the right rear. All in all, it was a solid night!”
The team was back at Ohsweken on Monday for a special Monday event featuring Kasey Kahne on July 25. The largest field of the season turned up, with the Turners among 34 entries trying to gain one of the 20 A-Feature starting spots. Ryan missed a transfer spot in both his heat and B-Main, while Jamie had trouble advancing from a row four starting spot in his heat race and had rear end problems in the B-Main. Cory’s luck was much better at first, as he won his heat race and started on the pole of the feature…but a broken front axle derailed his efforts.
The team made repairs and returned to Ohsweken for the Six Nations Showdown on July 26, racing their 360 cubic inch engines against the 410’s of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car series. Jamie managed to gain a transfer spot and finish 21st in the A-Feature, but Cory and Ryan could not escape the B-Main.
“The 91 had a rough weekend.. We tried some different things that didn’t seem to work. The 11 against the WOO found a couple of things that the crew is very happy with. We will take what we learned and put it in the car next week against the ESS.”
The three TTR drivers will race Friday against the Empire Super Sprints tour at Ohsweken, followed by Saturday and Sunday Southern Ontario Sprints tour events at Brighton Speedway and Humberstone Speedway. Teammate Havard Daniels will be back as well.
