Antigonish, Nova Scotia. August 17, 2013- During Round Nine of the NASCAR Canadian Tire season, Ron Beauchamp Jr. fought to the end of the Wilson Equipment 300 to collect as many points as possible.
Beauchamp’s #60 Mopar/Exide/Pennzoil Dodge ran well during practice, only requiring minor changes to prepare for qualifying. The team earned a decent 8th place start for the race.
“Everybody’s lap times are so close, it’s a real fight for every position in qualifying,” said the driver of the #60 Dodge prior to the main event.
Beauchamp settled into a comfortable race pace, consciously not pushing the car too hard. His laid back strategy was successful, and the #60 continued to run inside the Top 10 during the first third of the race. The vehicle ran well, only requiring slight adjustments during scheduled pit stops.
The #60’s smooth day came to a halt when the car suddenly slowed. Beauchamp immediately knew it was going to be a big problem for the team. He pulled into the pit lane and the team quickly diagnosed the problem as a broken gear.
The crew worked quickly to repair the issue, but the incident sealed the team’s fate. The #60 Challenger lost many laps the field while the problem was fixed. Beauchamp returned to action to run the final laps and collect as many points as he could.
Beauchamp finished 15th.
“It was a tough night,” Beauchamp said afterwards. “We felt we had a solid car and would be able to have a good night to help us in the championship. It didn’t turn out that way unfortunately. We’ll bounce back at the next race.”
Ron Beauchamp Jr. has tallied 284 points on the season, good for eighth in the overall championship standings.
