ST. JOHN’S, NL – With one of the most exciting Targa Newfoundland events still in the rear view mirror, organizers have set the dates for the 2014 event. The annual motorsports classic will be held From September 14 through September 19, 2014, organizers have announced.
“This year (2013) was one of our most challenging – yet rewarding – in our 12-year history, and we are eager to take advantage of our great momentum to get a head start on 2014,” says organizer Robert Giannou.
The organizing team is already in touch with Targa’s host communities for next year, Giannou says, and a revised format and schedule will be announced shortly that should make the event more streamlined for both competitors and organizers.
‘Early Bird’ entry is already open and special programs are being developed for returning competitors that rewards loyalty to Canada’s longest and toughest motorsport event. The ‘Early Bird’ rate offers a $1,000 discount for early entry.
“Even with more than a decade of presenting Targa Newfoundland, we understand we can’t rest on our laurels,” Giannou adds. “We are out in the market now, talking to communities, competitors and volunteers to get everyone planning for Targa 2014.”
Owned and operated by Newfoundland International Motorsports Limited, Targa Newfoundland is one of three internationally recognized Targa motorsports events in the world. The 2014 competition starts in St. John’s on September 14 and concludes back in the capital on September 19. The 13th annual rally will cover more than 2,000 kilometres of the challenging, twisty roads of the central and eastern portion of Newfoundland, including up to 450 kilometres of closed-road, flat-out Targa stages.
