HILLSDALE, ON- Freshman sensation Travis ‘.50 Cal’ Hallyburton will be in the field at Sunset Speedway on Thursday, September 18th. The 125-lap affair will mark the longest race of Hallyburton’s young career.
“As soon as the announcement was made about this race, I’ve been looking for a way to throw my name in there”, explains Hallyburton. “We wanted to make sure we got through Championship Night at Sunset before we started making plans for the CLLMC”
“Thankfully, we made it through the 100-lapper on Championship Night with a solid finish and the car in one piece. Now, with the help of Transaxle Truck & Trailer Parts and Hillsdale Service Centre, we can get our hotrod ready for Thursday’s show”
The Hillsdale, ON driver is coming off of a strong 2014 campaign, and will look to become the first Sunset Speedway Ltd. Late Model freshman to claim a podium this season.
“I can’t say enough about the level of competition here”, says Hallyburton with emphasis. “This is the deep end of the pool. It’s a lion’s den out here. You learn a lot racing with these guys, because they don’t give an inch on the track”
“We’ve picked up a lot this season, and hopefully we can implement some of the lessons we’ve learned and turn it into a top-3”
With the field set by Time Trial qualifying, Hallyburton makes it clear he’s focused on knocking down a good lap.
“I had no experience with time trials prior to this season, so our qualifying has been a work in progress”, offers the former Super Stock standout. “We’re getting there, though. And we’re going to need it. The talent level that’s coming out for this event is off the charts, we want to make sure we qualify in the front half of the field – or it might be a long night trying to work our way through traffic”
