Sponsorship at any level of racing can be tough to get and sometimes, it takes creativity to get it. Wilson Motorsports is doing that as they are hosting a fundraiser at the end of March.
On Saturday March 31st at 3pm, Brian Wilson and Wilson Motorsports will be hosting a fundraiser at the Around The Corner Pub & Eatery in Brampton, Ontario. The event is meant to raise money for Wilson’s racing efforts in 2012 and celebrate the sponsors that they’ve gained.
“There will be a live band, race track theme food, door prizes, games, a raffle and much more,” Wilson says. Wilson brought forward the event as he felt that “it could become a fun annual event and it should generate some profit for me to help fund me throughout the 2012 season. It also helps the racing season seem closer.”
Tickets for the event at $20.00 with all proceeds collected going straight to the race team. Wilson got started in racing at the age of eight in CSRA, racing snow cross, before racing go-karts for two years. This past season marked his first rookie season at Sunset Speedway, which saw him finish the year 13th in points and win the Rookie of the Year Award.
“Overall a good first year, huge learning curve, kept me busy and I’m thankful for all the help that people gave me all season long,” he says.
The list of people who helped Wilson include his buddy Kyle Moreau, as he Moreau put many hours into working on the car.
“I must thank my family for helping,” Wilson adds. “I got to also thank the Zardos and Bentleys for the season long help and support.”
For 2012, Wilson is looking to continue to get better as he would like to finish in the top 10 in points, win most improved driver, win some heat races, and lock down some good feature finishes. He adds that he wants to keep the car clean, while learning to drive more aggressive. Wilson and team would like to thank their sponsors for their support: Assured Car and Truck Rental, Smurf’s Towing, Canadian Home Renovations, Tuff Transportation, Spotless Janitorial, Pete’s Automotive, Stag Automotive and Scrap Car Towing.
For the young driver from Brampton, he says that he doesn’t have a racing hero, but likes many drivers with his favourite being Jeff Hanley. Around The Corner Pub & Eatery is located at 107 Kennedy Road South in Brampton, Ontario.
