Merlin, ON (June 25, 2017)- Saturday night at South Buxton was the annual Autism Awareness night. A donation cheque was presented in the amount of $1000.00 to the foundation courtesy of the Raceway and Chatham, Wallaceburg and Dresden Subway restaurants.
It was Kyle Gill’s #87 second Auto Tech Sales and Service Bomber Feature win of the season. Gill drove an impressive race coming fast out of the corners and maintaining his quick speed to land himself another win. Gill thanked his sponsors, fans and family for all of their support and help. Carter Pickering #23 brought home second and Jordan Vanhal #06 brought home third.
It was a group hug celebration in the Winners Circle for Doris Lajeunesse #38 after the Sun Parlour Trailers Sport Stock Feature Race. Starting second row and making it to the front after a couple of restarts, Lajeunesse battled hard to maintain his race lead. Lajeunesse, thanked his brother and fellow Modified racer Patrick Lajeunesse for all of his help on the car. Mitch Moody #23, who gave Lajeunesse a run for his money at times, claimed second place and Eren Vanderiviere #67 brought home third place.
The Winners Circle saw a familiar crowd after the Schinkels Gourmet Meat Modified feature. The Lajeunesse crew was back in the Winners Circle for a second time in one night. This time driver Patrick Lajeunesse #98P was there to claim the checkered flag. An excited Doris expressed his admiration for his brother, telling us Patrick spends his days leading up to race day, researching different setups for his car. Doris thanked everyone for all of the support, “the drivers: they’re great, amazing competition”. Finally, he thanked his crew, family and sponsors for all of the weekly support. Clayton Smith #313 brought home second place and Denis DeSerrano #69 brought home third.
It was a tough battle for first place during the Chatham Pro Shop Mini Mods Feature Race. Marshall Hereygers #31 was met in the Winners Circle with a congratulatory phone call from his wife Holly. Hereygers, who battled hard with second place Tim McKenzie #81, said “it was a wild ride, I was on my toes the entire race”. Hereygers, thanked his father in law Ray Burgess and Caleb Kemp for all of their help and setup on the car. Tim McKenzie took home second place and Elliot Wilton #1 brought home third.
It was a second Westside Performance Late Model Feature Win for Mike Lewis #05. Met in the Winners Circle by his excited crew members Lewis said, “The car was a little crazy out there, I just put her (the pedal) to the floor and hung on”. After thanking all of the fans that stayed to watch the last race, Lewis said, “ We’re out here to win races and put on a show, you have to have fun and enjoy life”. Before leaving to celebrate his win he also thanked his crew members stating, ” I couldn’t do this without them”. Gregg Haskell RH21 brought home second and Jason Haskell RH94 brought home third.
