CHATHAM, ON – Late Model drivers from across Ontario and the United States, are invited to the inaugural Gord DeWael memorial race for the Lube Tech/Great Canadian Oil Change UMP Late Models on Saturday, July 6 night at South Buxton Raceway.
Sherry and Gary Lemesurier, who owned the famous No. 03 car that Gord drove for many years at South Buxton Raceway and at the former Ridge Raceway, have stepped up to the plate to ensure the memorial race will be a memorable night for drivers and fans.
DeWael, a three-time track champion, passed away at the age of 62 this past January.
The Lemesuriers have secured special sponsors for the 25-lap feature as well as lap sponsors to significantly increase the purse, hoping that all of the local Late Model drivers in the area will come out to the track and take part in Gord’s memorial race.
The night’s purse has been expanded to $1,000 to win for a 15-20 car field, as well as receiving annual and keeper trophies.
The 25 laps are already sponsored – and an additional 17 have come on board for a total of 42 lap sponsors for the 25-race. The take additional sponsorship money will be added to the overall purse.
Also, John Pinsonneault, at Smooth Customair, will offer a free airbrushing on a helmet.
All Late Model drivers in the field will be eligible to win the prize from Pinsonneault, which will be drawn at the end of the feature by the race winner.
The DeWael feature is one of four memorials scheduled for July 6, along with the Brian Outhouse UMP Modifieds, the Cory Schives Tirecraft Mini-Mods and Len Bryden Sport Stocks.
