OWEN SOUND, ON- After working through ‘new car blues’ with his new ride for much of the 2015 season, Sauble Speedway veteran Smokin’ Joe Adams appears ready for a return to form in the division’s deeply talented Thunder Car division.
“We’ve been making gains on this car all season,” explains Adams. “It’s been a bit of a process, but every week we’re a little bit better. When we built this car last summer, we went back to the drawing board in a big way”
“It’s different than just about anything I’ve raced in the past,” continues the veteran. “So it’s been a learning process right from the word go. I think we’re closing in on it now, though. It’s felt a lot better the last few weeks”
The Owen Sound, ON native showed significant speed in Wednesday’s ‘Dash for Cash’ invitational at the speedway, working his way to a runner-up finish in the 40-lap event.
“We caught the wall and knocked the toe out early in the feature on Wednesday,” shrugs the former Autumn Colours Classic winner. “And we already give up some power to a few of the other cars in this division, so if we can’t get ours to handle – it puts us behind the eightball. That had a lot to do with why we weren’t able to challenge for the win at ‘the Dash'”
Despite grappling with his ride’s handling on Wednesday, Adams believes his car showed a bevy of potential in the event. And, after a pair of late nights in the shop, feels as though his familiar No. 00 could be in the running for a share of the added purse money – and transmission – offered by event sponsor Marvin Ella.
“If we can get it to work as well as it did on Wednesday before we tagged the wall, I think we have a good shot at the win tonight,” says Adams. “We’ve put a lot of hours into this car this summer, and I think we’re ready to start seeing a return on it”
Adding with a smile, “what better way to do that than by winning one of Marvin’s transmissions.”
Joe Adams’ 2015 season is supported by John Thompson Movers, Sauble Falls Tent & Trailer Park, MacDonnell Fuels, Buff Snack Sticks, Quik Lube of Owen Sound & MacKinnon Plumbing and Heating.
